I Flew to Maine to do a Living Room Makeover in Our AirBnB!

It’s super bright and early. We are headed to maine, we’re gon na make over a room in our airbnb there.

I’ve got the diy dolly with me and we are gon na.

Go let’s get on the road Music.

Okay.

So i want to show you the room that we will be making over and before.

I show it to you.

This is not how i left it, but it’s kind of the state of things it’s it’s, ask like i had it.

It’s not even a term i don’t, know anyways.

I want to show you okay, so this is kind of an overall look and we’re mainly going to be focusing in on this, like family room here, um living room um, but it’s gon na ultimately bleed over here, just by default.

Just because that’s there and you can’t have one without the other, there’s the diy, dolly she’s, checking things out. Let’s start with the rug.

This is actually kind of new and it’s in pretty good shape.

But.

It.’s all wrong it’s too lightweight it.

Looks like a piece of fabric or a blanket on the ground.

I don’t love that this is kind of the main offender here and at one point this looked really cute.

We got this couch and this couch on like facebook marketplace a few years ago for 50 bucks each and i dyed the slipcovers like a gray color.

Now they’re just looking very, very tired.

It’s.

Sad so those have got to go. The tv stand over here is also looking tired.

My kids have already pulled out the game console stuff real life here that you can see that it is just beat up, and now i don’t know if i want to paint this or if i just want to get something new.

This was something that i recovered a long time ago.

It’s, looking tired everything just looks super tired and you can see why we are here this.

I don’t even know that wasn’t another room.

I don’t know what happened to the original lamp that was here.

Somebody must have broke it.

I don’t know what happened to it.

It’s not there anymore, and then you can see the dining room over here.

It’s. It’s still cute ish.

I think we can work with that a little bit.

I have this really cute little settee here sitting underneath the window.

You can see the ocean right out of this window, but i got this right before we moved not too long and i made a little slip cover for it.

This has been about four years, so it’s held up pretty good, but it’s tired too, but underneath i don’t know if you can see this.

It’s a really cute navy blue, like polka dot, so that’s a little sneak peek of some inspiration of the direction.

This is headed.

You can see that it’s looking kind of tired.

So tomorrow morning we’re gon na go shopping.

We’re gon na, go see what we can find in the way of furniture. We’re gon na get a new sofa.

Maybe some accent chairs a new table.

We might do some thrifted some new, i don’t even know.

This is like all spur of the moment.

We’re gon na see what we can find.

The one thing i’m not gon na do is i’m not gon na be changing the wall.

Color, it’s kind of like a gray green color, that’s really a nice neutral, and i think it works in here.

So we are not changing the walls, but we are changing the curtains.

As you can see here, i have broken a cardinal hanging.

Roll they already had like the hardware, and i just never changed it. So i didn’t go into the effort, but we’re going to this time around.

We’re going to raise those up and get them the proper height.

We have a finite amount of time, so we’ll see what we can get done, but i’m.

I’m, really excited we’re going to go shopping in portland, which is about 45 minutes away from where we are.

I’m a little nervous because of the situation the past couple years.

Finding furniture is a little bit more challenging and we need a sleeper sofa.

We need either a love seat or some accent chairs.

We need accessories, we need rug.

We need like pretty much everything we have a limited amount of time to do it, and so let’s get on the road and see what we can find and we’ll go from there Music.

I just got home decor fabric for 2 99, a yard. I love martin’s, okay, so i have been to a ton of furniture stores by now, and the problem is: is that i’m looking for a sleeper sofa, which is very specific and they don’t have a ton of options.

If we were looking for a regular sofa, we’d have been done a long time ago, so i called ahead.

I think they might have something that will work here.

I’m, hoping because i’m running out of options and time.

Let’s go see if we can find something Music, all right, we did it, they can deliver it even tomorrow.

So this is wonderful Music, so they’re about to deliver the sofa it’s a little early.

I haven’t really even started the makeover yet, but i’ll take it when i can get it.

We’re happy about this Music.

We’re going to do a little shopping for some accessories, and here we’ve got tj maxx and i might even hit up big lots over here.

So we’ll see what we can find Music. I think i did pretty good shopping.

I feel like we did pretty good.

We got some really good um curtain rods, we’ve got some art, some accessories still a little bit more to go, but i was actually pretty impressed with big lots.

I haven’t been in there for a while, and they’ve really stepped up their game.

I think it was good.

I’m still a kid trying to act like they all taught me all right.

You can’t come to maine without eating a lobster roll.

So here we go so good Music.

I want to get some real, authentic, vintage nautical accessories for our room makeover.

I’ve got my mama here. We’re gon na go shopping in the flea market.

It’s called fort andros in brunswick maine, and we’re gon na see what we can find that’s like vintage, authentic, real cool stuff.

So let’s go Music.

Oh my word, wouldn’t that look cute that’s a true farm table right there.

This is a true farm table.

I think i have found our end table.

This is the booth that i was thinking of it.

39, s been the same for years, a whole bunch of awesome nautical stuff.

What do you think mom? It’s, amazing Music? Maybe i could have seen it all coming that i wouldn’t grow up. I think this would look super cute all cleaned up with a wreath on it.

We are going to take a break from all of the shopping and eat dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, the dolphin marina it’s got the best chowder in the world.

This is like the best chowder and blueberry muffin.

You can get so good, but look at that butter Music.

How nice am i i invite my parents to maine the beautiful maine and i put them to work.

I’ve started to clear out some of the stuff i’m gon na go ahead and clear out everything that doesn’t need to stay.

The new sofa is going to stay right where it is, and then we’re going to get started by hanging some curtains and then we’ve got to do a little touch up paint because one of the reasons i kind of hang them lower. This is a rule that i’ve broken was just because there was already a place to hold the rod and it was just convenience factors, but now we’ve got to get it in the right location.

We’re going to hang the curtains in the proper spot up high and out wide a little bit.

It will really lift the height of the room in here.

I believe this is barely eight feet.

It might even be just shy of eight feet, so we’re gon na try to lift up the height of the room by hanging the curtains properly with our new curtains that we ordered, and then we’ll start bringing in other furniture items and start The decorating it’s gon na be fun.

I am so excited.

Let’s get started Music.

I don’t need to feel lonely.

I am finally Music cause Music of all the magic places in the world i’ve been to.

This is where my heart is, so you know it’s, true, no matter where i go, i’m coming home to you been walking down the street so many times, so this is the little end table that my mom and i picked up at the Thrift store, it was a little wobbly, so i needed to shore up the legs. What i decided to do is pull all the legs off that were loose and mix together.

Some of this jb weld for wood, which then we just can squeeze out just as much as we need and then mix it together, and i’m going to put it on generously, but not so much that it squeezes out the sides after we press it Back together, then, we’re gon na.

Let it sit like this for 30 minutes according to the instructions, and now that it’s all set up and sturdy.

Once again, i take it outside and wipe on some dark walnut danish oil, which not only deepens the richness of the wood, but it also acts as a sealant, and then i leave that to dry Music cause.

The thing is: Music, all right: it’s getting late.

We’ve worked really hard today.

The last thing i’m going to do is put some awesome.

Slip covers on my end, parsons chairs, for my dining room table to kind of neutralize them and give them a fresh new look for hardly any money we’ll put them on and we’ll see how they fit Music.

This fits perfectly.

This is the last thing i’m going to do tonight and tomorrow it’s going to be all of the finishing touches. Pillows accessories are all of that.

It’s going to be happening tomorrow and i’m excited because it is looking good.

So far, Music, it’s the morning of the last day.

Here we just have some final finishing touches to do pillows accessories, artwork, all of the fun stuff, and i really struggled finding a green pillow that i liked here.

I was trying to buy everything because i don’t have all of my normal stuff that i work with.

I just couldn’t find a green pillow, so i borrowed my mother in law,’s sewing machine and found this really pretty home decor fabric.

At a store called martin’s, which is a surplus store – and this cost me just 2 99 – a yard, it’s, beautiful home decor fabric, and we’re gon na make some pillow covers really quickly, and that will be like our biggest project of The day i’ve got my mama bear over here: steaming the curtains she’s so nice to help.

My parents have been a huge help on this trip and then yeah it’s just doing all of the fun stuff.

So let’s finish.

This out and we’ll, see what the end result is. We’re going to use just the pillows from the sofa i don’t have my normal fabric measuring tape.

So we’re gon na have to just use this thing here and cut it to 21 inches square Music.

Oh and the darkness starts to fade, feels like things are gon na go my way.

I’m gon na.

I’m shine, let the past be filled with smoke Music and i will try to fix what has been broken and take this weight off my shoulders cause.

So we’re gon na try to cover up these cords.

I got a cord cover.

We’re gon na try to squeeze them all into that, and then i will just paint this to kind of blend into the wall.

So we’re gon na take care of that now i’m gon na.

Let the sun shine Music, Music, Music! Oh, i will open up my eyes, so i can see the light.

Oh and i’ll try to spread my wings.

So i can fight Applause.

Let the sun shine Music. We have driven over half the state of maine, scouring and searching for furniture and decor items, and we have worked really hard over this past several days and i cannot wait to share with you the final result.

So let me show you raised in a small town trying to burn out in glory yeah.

I never quite grasped Music, so this living room and dining room.

We’re, looking very tired, very worn, well loved, which is great because we want our home to be loved.

But it was time for a makeover and i really wanted to do a nautical theme and i kept the existing green color on the wall because i felt like it’s a nice neutral backdrop.

It was really good quality paint that’s really held up over time.

I don’t, remember the color, so i’ll try to find that out and put it in the comments below, because it is a really beautiful nice gray, green color.

It was a benjamin moore, color and benjamin moore paint, and it’s really stood the test of time.

So the first thing that i set out to find i knew would be one of the most challenging things to find, and that was the pull out sofa to find pull out sofas.

They’re, not that common, but to have it delivered in a short amount of time, have it in stock, and all of that i knew it was going to be a challenge, but i did find exactly what i was looking for: a navy blue piece. It’s got a steel frame with a lifetime warranty which is awesome and a high performance fabric on it.

So that is awesome.

I know it’s going to hold up and and really stand the test of time here, which is awesome because i don’t want to have to redo this all the time one of the best scores besides the sofa was this amazing rug.

I found it at a store called martins.

If you are from maine or maybe even new england area, you’re familiar with martin’s and it’s, basically a surplus store.

They have closeouts, and all of that so i found this amazing rug in perfect condition that tied our entire color scheme together and really was the anchor of everything, and i got it for 95 95.

It’s, a 6×9 area rug and it’s beautiful.

This would easily retail between four and six hundred dollars at a regular store, so it was such a score and then, of course, i found the transitional wing back chairs that i put in here at martin’s as well.

Such great deal probably half the cost that they would be in a regular store at.

I think they were 2 99, a piece that’s a really good price for a brand new chair, and i really love it. It’s got a beautiful herringbone pattern in a nice neutral color and we pulled over some of the blues from the sofa into the pillows and really tied it all together.

As for the ottoman, i didn’t really ever find anything that i loved.

So i kept an existing ottoman it’s gon na have to eventually be replaced.

It’s in not so awesome shape.

So i threw over a beautiful, throw with an awesome book that we found on our antiquing trip and then just some accessories to kind of make it do for now, because i, i think our guests will really appreciate a foot rest, but that’s, probably something That i either need to put a new slip cover on or replace down the road.

So you know we tried to get it all done in one trip, but it didn’t quite work out that way.

One thing i was not sure: if we could keep was the tv stand.

I really thought we were going to replace it.

It was really shabby.

Looking i didn’t know if i would have enough time to redo it or what not. But after looking around, i really couldn’t find anything that i liked better size wise scale wise.

So i decided with the help of my wonderful parents, to save this piece and it got a new coat of paint and some really fun and kind of kitschy anchor knobs from hobby lobby and really for the cost of the coat of paint and some two dollar Knobs, it is probably one of my favorite saves in this entire room, because it is so beautiful.

I love how it turned out and then we just kind of accessorized it a little bit and then, of course we hid the cords with this little cord saver and i really feel like that cleaned up.

The look i’m so glad we did that and then, of course, with a couple of fun, thrift finds and hobby lobby finds we just kind of accessorized it now.

These are some dining chairs, probably not what i would normally put here, but we really do need the additional seating since our home sleeps, around 14 people and this living room family room is kind of small.

So i really felt like we needed to leave these in and we bought those at the same martin store for about 50 each.

So that was a really good deal Music.

Now we just did very subtle things here in the dining room.

When i originally came, i wasn’t really planning on doing a whole lot in here.

I knew i needed to do a little bit, but they were very strategic. First of all, the captain’s chairs on either end were very kind of bold floral print, and i knew that that would not work with our new color scheme.

So i just ordered some slip covers from amazon and that really toned down the look of that and really changed things.

They’re washable, so they can be washed they fit like.

I made them for it, so that was a really good score and then i always had this satie and it was always in this navy.

Blue polka dotted fabric, i always loved it, but when i purchased it i had already chosen the color scheme.

So i had slip covered it and all we had to do is remove the slipcover, add a couple of decorative pillows and then back in the corner.

We put a ficus tree, a type it’s rounded leaves, i think it’s more, like a eucalyptus type leaf and then some really cute anchor plates that we found at the antique store, the flea market and and just a few little subtle touches, and It really has a really cute feel now you’ll notice over in this corner that there is a window air conditioning unit that is really normal here in new england.

Not very many people have a central air conditioning system.

It’s very common to have window units.

They’re not very attractive, but you definitely need those in the hot humid summer. So overall, there’s a few things that i would tweak here and there um, but we were fast and furious and, like i said, we had to drive all over the state because i this our property, is kind of removed from shopping and especially big shopping.

So it’s like 45 minutes to an hour, drive to accomplish what we did, but i just love the end result.

I think that they are cute and inviting and very kind of nautical and but not overdone, and i’m really thrilled with no matter it.

I do.

I’m coming home to you and i don’t know why you don’t know why.

I don’t know why i’m always feeling homesick Music, so i have a feeling that some of you may go well.

I want to see the rest of the house.
